Get to Know Me
Hi, I’m Jordi (she/her). I am a Registered Nurse, passionate educator and have been curious about birth and babies for as long as I can remember. At the tender age of 5, I remember taking a deep breath and pretending to push, while watching TLC's "A Baby Story", with my mom.
I graduated from the University of Ottawa in 2013. Since then, I have supported families at home, in small hospitals, big hospitals, clinics in rural Uganda - my experience with childbirth is vast. I started work at the Squamish General Hospital in 2017. The community and the place has stolen my heart and I am so grateful to have found such a beautiful place to work.
I am passionate about the power of education. I was a clinical instructor for the Nursing program at the University of Ottawa and Algonquin College and am a Neonatal Resuscitation Provider instructor - teaching other health care providers how to provide emergency care to neonates at birth.
I have personally experienced both a hospital birth and a home birth - both beautiful, powerful and unique in their own ways. I have witnessed the birth of hundreds and hundreds of babies over the last 12 years. My experience & education allows me the ability to answer questions, create scenarios, encourage, support and reflect with you on your unique journey through pregnancy and postpartum. I can’t wait to work with you!

Whether you are booking a private or a group session, the content is the same!
Throughout the first session, we will focus on labour and the birthing process:
• hormones, stages & flow of labour
• non-pharmacological and pharmacological pain management
• the power of the mind during labour and beyond
• partner support (what is my role?!)
• navigating the healthcare environment (decision making, question asking & advocacy)
• understanding vaginal births, assisted births, cesarean births, inductions and other possible interventions
• Birth preferences and plans (what is your dream birth?)
• What to expect for your birth depending on location (home & hospital birth)
Session two focuses on "after the birth" and how to care for the birthing person, your baby and partner during the first six weeks postpartum:
• Understanding physical healing and your journey through the 4th trimester
• Infant feeding (breastfeeding, pumping and bottle feeding)
• Sleep (biologically normal infant sleep, managing expectations, understanding sleep and how to sleep safely)
• Making a postpartum plan & navigating support from family and friends
• How to care for your infant (burping, diapers, holding, etc)
I will provide you with a list of resources and additional videos/education to dig into on your own time, as well as follow up via text or email if you desire!

Taking place over 6 hours, we will schedule two, three hour sessions.
Private prenatal sessions take place in the comfort of your own home.
I prioritize private sessions for those with complications or unique challenges in pregnancy.
I will provide you with a list of resources and additional videos/education to dig into on your own time, as well as follow up via text or email if you desire!
Timing and dates are flexible to each couple and we will collaborate to find times that work for you (evenings, weekends, daytime). I suggest receiving your prenatal education during your third trimester, but please book at your earliest convenience.
Weekend dates are limited and tend to book up quickly.
$450 per couple
Travel fee for couples living in Whistler and Pemberton.

I have a special interest in guiding folks through labour who are experiencing high blood pressure, diabetes, induction or are considering TOLAC/VBAC (vaginal birth after cesareans).
We will focus on advocacy, education and prepping your mind and body for labour.
Perhaps this is your second pregnancy and you do not need a full prenatal education series, but just a few hours to go over things.
Cost: $75 per hour (typically we start with a two hour session)

Are you at the end of your pregnancy and feeling anxious or nervous? Do you feel like you need someone to talk to who really understands pregnancy and birth and won’t judge you? Or are you newly postpartum and want to debrief your birth? Do you have a desire to chat with someone who can help you to make sense of something that happened?
Let’s go on a walk! Babies and dogs are more than welcome.
Reciprocity is up to you - whatever you decide will go directly towards helping me support low resource families who are in need of prenatal education.
My hope is that our time together will:
carve out precious time for you and your partner to talk, ponder, question & discuss all things birth & the fourth trimester;
provide you with foundational knowledge from an experienced nurse; you can decide if you want to explore more (I will provide a list of resources to explore);
create a safe space to ask questions so that you truly understand labour, birth and the immediate postpartum period;
give you an understanding of how the Squamish General Hospital maternity unit flows (what to expect when having your baby at SGH);
and get you EXCITED about this incredible adventure.
